Happy birthday Timothy Dalton. Bringing Bond into the 80's. Under-appreciated, under-rated... under-estimated!

First Badass Bond was best Badass Bond. Taking him out of the much classic and comical 80s of Moore. His two movies are in my top 5 favorite Bond flicks.

Sean Connery, at age 89, can still snap his neck left-handed. So, no.

he is my favorite Bond, for exactly the reason you said. First one to get past the camp of the Moore era. Totally sad he never made it past 2 movies. Dalton in Goldeneye would have been the goddamn shit

As with a lot of people I didn't like Dalton at first, but this was because I was binge watching the whole collection. On second viewing I appreciated them much more and will say that Dalton was a great Bond, that gets too much slack, because it was two decades ahead of its time.

Brosnan doesn't hold a candle to Dalton. Dalton would have made Goldeneye better than it was and then some! License to Kill was the shit.

Brosnan was a total mistake. What a pussy he was. I am liking the Craig movies now because it is everything the Dalton movies that never were could have been

Time has been extremely kind to Mr. Dalton. It was a huge crime he didn't get to do his full four film contract, would have loved to see his take on GoldenEye .

I liked Brosnan as Bond, but the scripts were absolutely awful. He's probably my second favorite Bond, but his Bond movies are my least favorite.

who is your favorite Bond?

Also the scripts were extra bad because they are so dated now I think. They were a relative flop at the box office too

I do think that he was given the shitty part of the Bond flicks, because those movies were just terrible even if he wasn't there; save for Goldeneye which was the best Brosnan movie. I bet he could have been better off had the movies not been the way they were, but still.

I have yet to watch Quantum of Solace and Skyfall though. Saving them for the right time.

I watched the Lazenby film for the first time in years, recently. Overall, better than I remembered, but that ending devastated me.

"Ms. Peel, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"

I've never seen the Lazenby film. Excluding him, this is my order for best Bonds:

Connery

.

.

.

.

.

Brosnan

Dalton

.

.

.

.

Moore

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Craig

Craig is at the bottom because: a) he fell for the girl, b) who cares about the books? c) they tried to bring Bond into the 21st century. I like my Bond uncouth, unrepentant, sexist, and kind of racist thankyouverymuch. Much like Clarkson, some things are best left in a 20th century mindset. Even a SJW pseudo-feminist future-career-academic friend of mine with an intentionally misspelled degree admits that she misses sexist/racist Bond.

you have a very interesting and well thought out list there. I dont agree, but this is almost like talking about religion or politics. Noone is wrong, but everybody wants to be right and will fight about it! haha

Yeah, totally. Different people are looking for different things in Bond. I grew up probably just late enough for the Connery ones to have gone past the dated period and into the classic one while Moore was just pure dated camp for me. Brosnan and Dalton seemed to me like an attempt to get back to the roots of the movie character as defined by Connery, but neither could deliver a line like "I musht have appealed to her maternal inshtinctsh," or "No, jusht looking" like Connery. Connery was also probably the most fantasy-laden of the Bonds as well, but he managed to play it both tongue-in-cheek and smooth at the same time which was always impressive to me. It always feels to me like with Connery, every guy watching is in on the joke but that they also want to believe that they're that cool and have a part of them that makes them believe that they can pull it off.

If it wasn't for connery rocking it like he did, there likely wouldnt have been dozens more movies too
